How to stay positive?
This emotion of pessimism is very common, or in other words, we are always naturally inclined to pessimistic views. When you are lost in the ocean of negative thinking, it is difficult for you to see the positive side of life and become an optimist.
think positive |
Based
on this, today we are here to share with you 9 ways to make you have a more
optimistic attitude and positive views:
"No
one can go back to the past and start again, but everyone can start today and
write a completely different ending."-Maria Robinson
When
I was young—when I was in my teens and early twenties—I felt trapped. Not
physically, but spiritually: caused by a destructive mode of thinking called
pessimism. Such negative thoughts poisoned a beautiful childhood,
adolescence and early adulthood full of opportunities. This pessimism
creates ceilings and walls where there are no ceilings and walls.
During
the time when I was shrouded in pessimism, I and almost everything in my life
stagnated. Looking back now, this is a terrible waste. If you are in
a pessimistic state, you don't have to spend the rest of your life
there. I didn't have it because I learned to replace negative thoughts
with optimism.
In
this article, we will explore 9 positive habits that have helped me change from
a person who was pessimistic most of the time to one who is almost always
optimistic. I suggest not to integrate all the habits at once, but to
choose a habit, and stick to it for 30 days before forming the next habit to
make it a real habit.
1. Ask yourself the right questions
This
is the simplest but most important habit I have found in developing an
optimistic attitude. When we encounter negative, difficult or uncertain
situations, the questions we ask ourselves every day are enough to change our
lives.
developing an optimistic attitude |
A
pessimist might ask himself questions like this:
"Why
does this happen to me?"
"Why
do bad things always happen to me?"
The
optimist also asks himself some questions, but these questions will open up
his/her heart and accept new ideas and possibilities. When looking for an
optimistic perspective, some of my favorite questions are:
"Is
there any benefit in this situation?"
"What
can I learn from this situation?"
"What
small step can I take today to solve this problem?"
2. Create a positive living environment
The
people you spend time with, and the information you let them influence your
thinking, can have a huge impact on your attitude and your perception of
things.
influence your thinking |
So you have to choose:
Spend
more time with people who can cheer you up. Spend less time — or no time —
with people who are negative and critical.
Let
the information that supports you come in. Spend less time in negative and
self-esteem media, spend more time reading positive and constructive blogs and
books, watch inspirational movies, listen to inspirational songs, and listen to
something made by optimistic people Audiobooks and podcasts.
3. Be grateful for what you have (and don't forget yourself)
A
very simple and quick way to increase the positive energy in your life is to be
grateful.
I
usually ask one or more questions like this:
·
In today's life, what can I be grateful for?
·
In my life, are there three people I should be grateful
for? Why?
·
About myself, what are the three things I should be grateful
for?
Take
60 seconds or minutes to answer one of the questions every day, and you will
reap unexpected results.
4. Don't forget your body
Being
an optimist is not just thinking differently. It also includes caring for
a part of our body.
I
find that exercising several times a week, getting enough high-quality sleep
and healthy eating every night have a great influence on my mentality.
exercising |
If I
can't handle these basic things well, then negative thoughts will appear more
frequently, I will become more pessimistic, and close the door to the
possibilities in life.
So
don't ignore these basic principles. As long as you take care of your body
in the right way, you can minimize a lot of problems in your life.
5. Start your day in an optimistic way
The
way you start work in the morning can set the tone for the following
day. For example, a stress-free morning usually results in less stress at
other times of the day.
stress-free morning |
So
how do you set an optimistic tone for your day?
A
three-step combination that works well for me is to ask myself a grateful
question at breakfast, read some positive information online or in a book in
the morning, and then exercise.
This
can put my thoughts on the right path and fill me with energy to greet me every
day.
6. Focus on the solution
One
way to feel more negative about a situation is to sit there and do
nothing. Instead, use the questions I asked in the first step to open up
your heart and face your situation.
change your current situation |
If
you have trouble starting to take action, ask yourself:
What
small step can I take today to get this project started?
Then
take a small step forward. No matter how small this step is, it can have a
big impact on your emotions and thoughts. If you think this step is too
big, or think it will delay you, then ask yourself:
What
smaller step can I take today?
The
most important thing is to move forward, even if it is only a small step.
7. Reduce your worries
Anxiety
is a powerful destructive habit that can control anyone's thinking. It
also used to be one of the biggest obstacles for me to stay optimistic and move
forward in life.
don't stress yourself |
Two
effective steps have helped me, and are still helping me to minimize these
worries:
Ask yourself :
How many of my troubles have happened in reality? If you are like me, you will find the answer is: little or no. Most of the things you fear in your life will not happen. They are just nightmares or monsters in your heart. This question can help you recognize reality, calm you down, and realize that you are probably just creating another imaginary nightmare.
Focus
on solutions and actions you can take. This worry will become more intense
when the mind is blurred and the body is not active. So, use the questions
in steps 1 and 6 to get rid of your worries and start solving the problem.
8. Don't let idealization ruin everything
One
of the mistakes people often make when changing attitudes is that they think
they have always been perfect and need to make things perfect. But this
only makes them less active.
nothing is perfect |
Changing
a positive attitude is a gradual process. Although you may be stumbling,
but continuing this way will strengthen your positive views more and more.
But
if you set an inhuman standard for yourself, thinking that you must change from
a pessimist to an optimist, then you may find it difficult to do so. So you
may feel that you are a failure. Then get angry at yourself. Then you
may give up changing this habit and return to negative thoughts.
Therefore,
we should pay attention to gradual changes. If you are optimistic 40% of
the time now, try to increase to 60%. Then, after you have adapted to the
new standard, increase it to 80% and, if possible, to 100%.
Compared
to trying to achieve inhuman standards based on perfection, this focus on
incremental improvement is more sustainable and more likely to bring long-term
success.
9. Finally, remind yourself not to give up
I
want to end this article with a simple, powerful and timeless idea. This
idea always comforts and encourages me to move on when things look bleak.
never give up |
That is: the darkness before dawn.
When
my social skills and dating life were terrible, this kind of thinking helped me
stick to it and continue. It helps me continue what I do when things seem
to never get better. It helped me stand firm in the dark.
I
found this idea to be very correct. Why? Because when everything in
my work, emotional life, or other life is at a low point, something positive
will always happen. This may be due to the trough that forced me to change
the way I do things.
But
it may also be because when I continue, life itself has a night
pattern. Take action instead of giving up, good things will always happen.
This
kind of thinking makes me more convinced that we must remain optimistic, take
action, and persevere even in difficult times.
